March 22, 2018

Press release

On March 21st 2018, Jan van der Tempel, CEO of Ampelmann and DOB Academy, was named an honorary member of the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI). This honorary membership recognises his domestic and international contributions to the offshore industry.

The Director of the Society, Micaela dos Ramos, says: "We particularly recognise his role as the inventor and developer of the Ampelmann, a stable gangway for offshore platforms such as wind turbines, enabling many people to safely work in the offshore industry. We are also deeply impressed by his efforts for education, research and innovation within the engineering sciences, especially in the broad offshore domain and its crossroads with sustainable energy. By doing so, he importantly contributes to the exchange of expertise within and between these areas of expertise."

Van der Tempel is honoured by this membership. "Engineers have an utterly important role to play during the energy transition. In the offshore industry, the first non-subsidised wind farms are now being built. By continuing to innovate, more cost reductions are attainable, while storing hydrogen and hydrocarbons will become profitable in the near future too. All these developments will help us to make the global energy need more sustainable. I am grateful for this honorary membership, it adds another boost to my daily drive to contribute."
