Ampelmann: Providing access to the emergent offshore wind market in East Asia
As fuel prices soar and demands for clean and sustainable energy sources become more vocal, countries in East Asia are setting ambitious targets to pave the way towards the energy transition. Offshore wind will play a critical role in achieving these targets and is set to provide clean power to millions of future citizens and businesses. Outside of China, that already has an established offshore wind sector, the emergence of new wind markets in eastern Asia will be especially notable. Taking the lead are Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, which, together, aim to build nearly 40GW of combined turbine capacity in the next decade. To achieve these goals, the coming years will see an intensification of construction projects throughout the region in addition to a growing number of long-term maintenance scopes. The [Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)](https://gwec.net/) estimates that at least 30.1GW will need to be constructed in the next eight years to meet these targets. Constrained by rising vessel costs and supply chain issues, it is of critical importance to maximise the efficiencies of offshore operations in as safe a way possible. Motion compensated access solutions will be essential if these goals are to be reached. By providing a stable access point between vessels and wind turbines, these gangways extend weather windows, decrease downtimes, and provide safe passage for personnel and cargo during rough sea states.
